    T off plaquenil

It may have both an anti-spirochaete activity and an anti-inflammatory activity, similar to the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. And caution is required if patients have certain heart conditions, diabetes, psoriasis etc.

New rheumy said NEVER go off Plaquenil again, and this time I'm listening. This drug is the difference between life and death for me, and I am not only symptom free on it, but I also have no side. So that's the update. The lesson here is - for those who need to go off plaquenil, be careful about just going off it cold turkey. Obviously some of CAN do that, but if you don't know if you're one of them - better to be on the safe side and wean slowly. Take it from me! I am feeling much better after bumping my dose back up over the last few. My new rheumy, after running a trillion tests, has said that if it weren't for my previous rheumy's test results, he would say I did not have lupus. So, I asked about coming off of plaquenil. He said that I could stop plaquenil cold turkey. It slowly decreases effectiveness in the body.

The most serious adverse effects affect the eye, with dose-related retinopathy as a concern even after hydroxychloroquine use is discontinued. The most common adverse effects are a mild nausea and occasional stomach cramps with mild diarrhea.

Hydroxychloroquine is a DMARD. The brand name is Plaquenil. What does Plaquenil do? Plaquenil relieves pain and swelling and prevents damage to joints. How long does Plaquenil take to work? Plaquenil works very slowly. In 1 to 3 months you should start to feel better. You may continue to get better for up to 1 year. Jan 27, 2010 I discussed it with my Rheumy and she said I could. My platelet count continues to go lower, and I have read that in rare cases Plaquenil depresses the bone marrow. Anyway, I am to taper off gradually 2 weeks at half dose 200mg a day, then 2 weeks at quarter dose, one pill every other day, then OFF. I’ve been on plaquenil for over 20 years and just stopped taking it. I don’t think it has ever helped. I have tested negative on my ANA tests for the last 3 Year’s. Weird because I still have all the pain, plus terrible neuropathy due to autoimmune issues.

Hi lupies (I know, we can't be defined by our disease(s) but it works here), I have noticed that quite a few of us take gabapentin (neurontin). My neurologist thought it may have been peripheral neuropathy and tried the Neurontin. I believe I've finally found the solution to my migraines. Has anyone experienced plaquenil toxicity with damage to eyes? Aug 01, 2009 I have been taking plaquenil for a little over 10 years and getting eye exams regularly. Suddenly I'm experiencing eye problems blilnd spots. I have stopped taking plaquenil, but now I'm being told by doctors that the damage is not necessarily reversible especially if you have taken it for a long time.

Taking Plaquenil for Rheumatoid Arthritis Plaquenil is a DMARD which has been prescribed for years to treat rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune diseases. When the first biologic DMARD received FDA-approval in 1998, and as other biologics followed in subsequent years, it appeared as though Plaquenil would become less prescribed.
